LCA UGANDA

As part of the Joint Action Plan, the coalition has been able to avail assistive devices, provide furniture and also teaching materials for the selected schools.

During an assessment carried out by the LCA, it was also discovered that there was a decline in enrollment of pupils from academic year 2022 and 2023 in all the five divisions of Kampala due to the gaps highlighted below;
The LCA member organisations carried out a joint assessment in seventeen government aided schools in all five divisions of Kampala; Makindye, Rubaga, Central, Kawempe and Nakawa. This helped the LCA identify education gaps and these included;

OUR CAUSES

Lack of assistive devices for children living with disabilities

Lack of assistive devices for children living with disabilities and lack of psychosocial support for orphans and vulnerable learners was another gap that was identified. There is also a need to support schools that cater to children living with disabilities in terms of building capacities of the teachers to handle them to ensure that they are not marginalised.

Lack of learning/teaching materials.

This does not enable pupils attain sufficient knowledge and understanding in the classroom or support teachers to share knowledge with the pupils hence affecting their learning. LCA plans on supporting atleast 20 schools with learning materials to support learning outcomes for the pupils.

Limited furniture in many of the schools

Limited furniture in many of the schools was also another gap that was identified. Although the LCA was only able to support eleven schools out of the seventeen with 300 desks, there is a huge gap in these schools and many were left out due to limited resources. LCA hopes to support twenty schools with furniture especially those schools with children living with disability to enable them achieve their learning outcomes.

To address the above gaps to increase enrollment of pupils including refugees, the LCA hopes to support 25 government aided schools with desks, learning materials and support schools with children with disabilities with assistive devises, veranda guards where need be.

As part of the Joint Action Plan, the coalition has been able to avail assistive devices, provide furniture and also teaching materials for the selected schools.
